Safety & Self-Defense

 

 

There are many simple steps you can take to improve your home's security and protect yourself in your community.   We hope the information below is helpful to you. For more information, please also check out our  "Education & Prevention Links", or

SAFETY PRACTICES AT HOME

-Lock the door.
-Put on the chain or deadbolt lock.
-Close the curtains.
-Leave an outside light on at night.
-Leave an inside light on when you are coming home after dark.
-Use a peephole or window to see who is at door.
-Never open the door to a stranger.
-Do not ever say you are home alone.
-Do not give private information over the phone.

COMMUNITY SAFETY


-Never accept rides from strangers or people you don’t know well.
-Lock your car doors when you are driving.
-Do not go to a stranger’s car or home, even if you plan to wait outside.
-Walk or jog in the daytime.
-Walk with friends when possible.
-Stay away from lonely or dark places.
-Walk along main roads- don’t take short-cuts.
